(Southaven, MS) --- Louis Dumont scored the Mississippi RiverKings' last four goals, all in the third period, as the RiverKings stopped the Colorado Eagles' four-game winning streak on Friday, December 4th in Southaven.
The 6-3 final score matched the RiverKings' highest offensive output in one game this year and drew Mississippi to within three points of the Eagles in the CHL Northern Conference standings with a 10-9-2 record.
The four third-period goals also marked a season-high for Mississippi in goals scored in one period.
The RiverKings took the early lead in the first period, when Ryan Campbell scored his seventh goal of the season on a wrist shot from the slot. The red-lighter gave the RiverKings a 1-0 advantage after one period of play.
The offensive play picked up in the second period, when Colorado netted two goals and the RiverKings got one in the middle frame. Kevin Ulanski scored a pair of goals for Colorado, but Mississippi forward Adam Smyth scored on a loose puck in front of the net at 13:28 of the second period for their second goal of the game and a 2-2 tie after forty minutes of play.
Colorado took a 3-2 lead eight minutes into the final period on a power play goal from Ryan McLeod, but that was it for the Eagles as the Dumont show began.
The RiverKings' veteran notched his sixth of the season at 12:59, and then scored the eventual game-winning goal on the power play at 14:33. Dumont added another power play goal at 15:59 and finished with an empty-net goal with 1:28 left for the final 6-3 score, four goals for the period and for the night, and a total of nine goals for the year.
Mississippi outshot the Eagles by a 42-37 margin. Winning goaltender Ray Jean (8-7-1) stopped 34 shots for the RiverKings. Colorado goalie Mike Mole (4-3-0) made 36 saves, but allowed five of the six RiverKings' goals.
The RiverKings stopped a two-game winless streak with the victory. Mississippi next battles the Missouri Mavericks in their next game on Sunday afternoon at 3:05 PM in Southaven. A RiverKings flex-pack of tickets is a great way to give the gift of hockey for Christmas.
