Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO - The Missouri Mavericks have announced that their specialty jersey night on Saturday, Jan. 30th will honor former Kansas City Chiefs player, Will Shields, and his 2015 induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The specialty jerseys will be worn by the Missouri Mavericks during their home game at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena on Saturday, Jan. 30th (7:05p.m. start) and auctioned-off directly following the game in sections 101 and 102 in a live auction. Proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit Will Shields' Will to Succeed Foundation.
"It is a great feeling to be honored here in Kansas City, and to be welcomed in as part of the Mavericks family for the night," said Shields. "To have this night benefit a worthy cause, the Will to Succeed Foundation, helping organizations provide support for children and families of the Kansas City metro area who are in need, makes it all the more special."
The Will to Succeed Foundation has helped over 100,000 individuals since its inception in 1993 and currently sponsors over a dozen programs and initiatives in which the organization, as well as its founders, are "hands-on" participants in all activities. Three major areas the foundation targets to support are; abused/neglected women and children agencies, literacy and scholarships and improved creativity.
Will Shields will be on-hand at the Mavericks game to drop a ceremonial first puck on January 30th.
Shields played his entire 14-year NFL pro career with the Kansas City Chiefs (1993-2006). Having never missed a game through those 14 years, Shields holds the Chiefs record for most games played and starts in a career-224 games, 223 starts. Originally from Fort Riley, KS, he played collegiately at University of Nebraska and went on to receive such honors as: 3 All-Pro Selections, 12 straight Pro Bowls, NFL's All Decade Team of 2000s, and was enshrined to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on August 8, 2015.
Tickets to all Missouri Mavericks home games are available online at TicketMaster.com and in-person at the arena box office. The Mavs game on Friday, Jan. 22nd sparks a 14-game home stand at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena that will carry through to Feb. 21st!
