Alaska Aces News Release
DULUTH, GEORGIA - Peter Sivak scored twice and added an assist in a spirited Aces comeback from a 3-0 deficit, but former Ace Garry Nunn scored with just 1:10 to go in overtime, sending the Atlanta Gladiators past the Alaska Aces 4-3 in Tuesday at the Infinite Energy Center.
Tyler Shiplo gave the Glads a 1-0 lead with a shot from the right point at 2:15. Tyler Murovich made it 2-0 with his 12th goal of the season on a wrap-around at 13:36. Atlanta outshot Alaska 19-5 in the first period.
Atlanta took a 3-0 lead at 6:04 of the second period, as Brock Higgs tipped a shot from Max Everson past Aces goaltender Troy Redmann for his 13th goal of the season.
Alaska started their push-back with a shorthanded goal by Justin Breton. With Garet Hunt in the box, Peter Sivak pushed the puck ahead to Breton, who used his speed to race past a defender and in front of Gladiators goaltender Kent Patterson. Breton slid the puck between the pads of the falling goalie for his 13th goal of the season.
With the Aces on the power play to start the third period, Sivak took a pass from Coffman and drilled a shot that Patterson got a piece of, but not enough of, to make it a 3-2 game just 24 seconds in. William Wrenn also picked up a helper on the play. Sivak struck again at 7:19 for his second of the game, 7th of the season from Coffman and Collin Valcourt and the game was tied at 3 at the end of regulation.
In the overtime, Alaska outshot Atlanta 6-5 and had a handful of great chances to pull out the win. The Gladiators did too, and finally cashed in when Nunn took defenseman Patrick Wellar one on one to the net, got through Wellar, and backhanded a bar-down goal past Redmann to win it.
Redmann finished the game with 44 saves...Patterson knocked away 27 Alaska shots.
The Gladiators outshot the Aces 48-30 for the game.
Alaska moves on now to take on the Swamp Rabbits Thursday night in Greenville at 3:00pm Alaska time.
The Aces return home to face the Idaho Steelheads in a 3 game series starting Friday, January 22. For tickets, stop by the Aces ticket office at 15th and Gambell Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm, or go online at www.alaskaaces.com.
