Atlanta United FC News Release
ATLANTA - Atlanta United returns to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to take on Philadelphia Union on Saturday. Atlanta holds a 4-3-3 all-time record against the Union in MLS regular season and playoff games: 3-0-2 at home and 1-3-1 on the road. This is the second meeting between the two teams this season.
Atlanta defeated Orlando City SC 1-0 in its last match off the back of another tremendous goal from Thiago Almada. The Argentinian played a one-two pass with Andrew Gutman on the edge of the Orlando box, playing Almada into the penalty area. With close control of the ball, the midfielder sat an Orlando defender down onto the pitch before tucking a finish into the opposition's goal.
The team's wins against Toronto and Orlando marked the first time this season that Atlanta has won back-to-back games. The consecutive victories moved Atlanta to within two points of the playoff line with three games remaining.
Atlanta has scored in each of its last nine games, scoring 17 goals in that run. The team is looking to match its best scoring streak of the season against Philadelphia, a run of 10 games that took place from April 24 to July 3.
Philadelphia is currently leading the Supporters' Shield race, having racked up an MLS-high 63 points going into its match in Atlanta. The Union has won its last five matches, scoring 23 goals in that span.
