Marvel Earns Another Win as Indians Blank Bats, 4-0

LOUISVILLE, KY. - James Marvel tossed five shutout innings, Will Craig and Eric Wood collected run-scoring doubles, and the Indianapolis Indians closed out their 2019 season with a 4-0 win in Louisville. Kevin Kramer scored two of Indy's four runs and tallied three of the Tribe's 10 hits in the victory.
Deadlocked at 0-0 through four innings, the Indians (66-74) broke through for one run in the fifth off Eric Stout. Kramer ignited the two-out rally with an infield single to third, took second on a Ke'Bryan Hayes walk and scored on a ground-rule double by Craig.
Marvel escaped his biggest jam of the afternoon in the bottom half to maintain the one-run lead. He surrendered a double and bunt single but following a strikeout and eventual walk that loaded the bases, the 25-year-old induced a double play to second base off the bat of Brian O'Grady.
Kramer started another rally in the seventh with a leadoff single. Trayvon Robinson later worked a two-out walk ahead of a two-run double by Wood that made it 3-0. Robinson contributed an RBI single in the ninth, following Hayes' 30th double of the season, to complete the scoring.
Marvel (W, 7-0) struck out five, issued two walks and scattered five hits in the triumph. In his final 17 starts between Double-A Altoona and Indy, the Curve and Tribe went a combined 16-1.
Brandon Waddell (S, 1) retired all six batters he faced to earn his first professional save.
Stout (L, 2-2) was handed the loss after yielding one run on six hits in 4.2 innings pitched. He walked two and fanned six. Louisville (59-81) had just six hits in the loss.
Craig's RBI was his team-leading 78th of the season, eighth most by a Tribe player since Victory Field opened in 1996.
Coupled with Toledo's 11-3 loss to Columbus, the Indians end their 2019 campaign tied for second with the Mud Hens in the IL West. The Tribe also won 4-0 in Louisville to end the 2018 season to finish in a tie for second with Columbus.
Indy's 2020 season begins with a seven-game homestand against Toledo and Columbus. The season opener is set for Thursday, April 9 at Victory Field.
