(New Britain, CT) - Brett Marshall tossed 5.2 shutout innings to become the first Eastern League pitcher with ten wins as the Trenton Thunder beat the New Britain Rock Cats, 3-1, Sunday afternoon to win three of four in the series at New Britain Stadium. Marshall (10-3) allowed only two hits and struck out six as Trenton (54-39) moved a season-high 15 games above .500 and three games ahead of the second-place Rock Cats in the Eastern Division standings.

Addison Maruszak and Neil Medchill each hit solo home runs against New Britain starter B.J. Hermsen (5-5) to help stake Marshall to a 3-0 lead. The right-hander retired 13 straight batters at one point, and Trenton has now won his last six starts.

Jon Meloan, the fifth Thunder hurler of the game, allowed a run in the ninth on Deibinson Romero's RBI single and later allowed the tying runs to reach scoring position with two outs. Meloan then struck out James Beresford to end the game and record his third save in as many opportunities.

Luke Murton added an RBI single for the Thunder, which collected six hits in the contest. Lee Hyde, Ryan Pope and Francisco Rondon each pitched scoreless relief after Marshall exited in the sixth.
