New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
PORTLAND, Maine - Ryan Goins drove in three runs and Ryan Tepera returned with 5.1 innings of one-hit ball to help the Fisher Cats (37-57) snap a five-game skid with a 5-1 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (40-55). The victory is the first for the Fisher Cats since the All-Star break, salvaging the finale of a five-game series at Hadlock Field.
The two clubs were scoreless going into the top of the third when Goins struck for New Hampshire. With two outs, a single to right field plate a pair of runs against starter Chris Hernandez (L; 4-8) for a 2-0 New Hampshire lead.
Tepera, who was called up from Dunedin earlier in the day, kept the lead at two runs through five innings, all without giving up a hit. With two outs in the top of the sixth, Joel Galarraga laced a two-run single to left field to score Mike McDade and Mark Sobolewki to pad the lead at 4-0.
Tepera came out for the sixth inning, retiring the first batter he faced. After a one-out walk, Jackie Bradley Jr. ended Tepera's no-hit and shutout bids with a single to center to score a run and cut the lead to 4-1. Tepera left the game at that point, allowing one run on one hit over 5.1 innings. He finished with six strikeouts, a Double-A season high, to improve to 3-1 on the season.
After the bullpen held the lead at 4-1, Goins added an insurance run in the ninth on a fielder's choice to shortstop to score John Tolisano. Trystan Magnuson closed out the game with a scoreless ninth to end the series.
New Hampshire now continues its nine-game road trip with a doubleheader at New Britain Stadium on Monday night. RHP Fernando Hernandez (3-6, 4.67) takes the ball in game one followed by RHP Chris Jakubauskas (0-1, 3.38) in the nightcap. First pitch is at 5:35 PM. Radio coverage begins at 5:15 PM with Tom Gauthier on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
The Fisher Cats return on for a four-game series with the Sea Dogs on Thursday, July 19 at 7:05 PM. The series features three nights of Atlas Fireworks and a Glow-in-the-Dark Baseball Giveaway on Sunday, July 22. For tickets and the full list of promotions, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
