Marshall Promoted to Tampa; Martinez Transferred to Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC - The New York Yankees announced Sunday that Charleston RiverDogs right-hander pitcher Brett Marshall has been promoted to the High-A Tampa Yankees and right-handed pitcher Richard Martinez has been transferred from the Staten Island Yankees to the RiverDogs.

Marshall, a Highlands, Tex. native, has appeared in 13 games, all starts, with the RiverDogs thus far this season since joining the club on July 1. The 20-year-old has posted a 4-2 record and 2.50 ERA, giving up 52 hits, 20 earned runs and 22 walks, with 56 strikeouts, in a total of 72.0 innings of work. The righty gave up a combined two earned runs in his last six starts in the South Atlantic League, spanning 36.0 innings.

Martinez, a Turmero, Venezuela native, appeared in 16 games with the Staten Island Yankees in 2010, including two starts and 14 relief appearances. The right-hander posted a 4-1 record and 1.69 ERA, surrendering 22 hits, six earned runs and 16 walks, with 34 strikeouts, in a total of 32.0 innings on the mound while in the New York-Penn League.
