Crawdads Stop Drive with 4-3 Win

GREENVILLE, SC - The Hickory Crawdads held on for the 4-3 win against the Greenville Drive, before 5,798 fans at Fluor Field on Sunday night.
The Crawdads (74-64, 34-34) struck first with four runs on five hits and one error in the top of the first. SS Leury Garcia led off with a single and stole his way to second, before a LF Travis Adair fielder's choice and SS Vladimir Frias throwing error combined to bring Garcia in for the game's first run. The rally continued with four more first inning knocks, including RBI singles by C Zach Zaneski, RF Guillermo Pimentel and 3B Matt West to put Hickory up, 4-0.
LHP Robbie Erlin started for the 'Dads and struck out four through three scoreless innings before giving way to LHP Chad Bell (3-3) for the middle innings. Bell started with scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth, but Greenville (77-61, 41-27) got on the board in the sixth with a two-out, two-run triple by 1B Reynaldo Rodriguez. The Drive then pulled within one, 4-3, with an RBI grounder by C Christian Vazquez in the seventh.
RHP Ovispo De Los Santos took over and dealt a scoreless eighth, before striking out the first two in the ninth. With Greenville down to its last out, the game was kept going on a throwing error that allowed DH Wilfred Pichardo to reach. LHP Joseph Ortiz then came in and induced a grounder by CF Reymond Fuentes to the right side, which 1B Mike Ortiz reeled in with a diving stop and then flipped to the covering Joseph Ortiz for the final out of the game, wrapping up the Crawdads 4-3 win.
Bell earned the win for Hickory and Ortiz logged the save. RHP Ryan Pressly (5-7) was tagged with the loss for Greenville.
