LAKEWOOD, NJ - Jose Vargas' two out two-run single in the tenth propelled Kannapolis to a 4-2 win Sunday night.
Vargas went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, and helped snap Lakewood's four game winning streak.
Justin Beal (2-3) took the loss while Kannapolis closer Orlando Santos (1-1) blew a save in the ninth but threw a scoreless tenth for the win.
Kannapolis took the lead early. Daniel Wagner singled to start the game, stole second, and came home on a Jordan Cheatham double.
Lakewood tied the game at one with one swing from Anthony Hewitt, as the right-fielder belted his 11th homer of the season out to left-center to start the third.
Kannapolis came right back in the fourth, loading the bases with no outs for Vargas, who singled to center to put the Intimidators up 2-1.
Brody Colvin managed to work out of the jam after that in his final tune up prior to the postseason for the BlueClaws, letting up two runs on seven hits in five innings.
Lakewood rallied to tie the game in the ninth against Santos, but they had some help. Carlos Perdomo started the inning with his first hit as a BlueClaw, and Kyle Lafrenz sacrificed him to second.
Leandro Castro hit a grounder to second, but Daniel Wagner booted the ball letting Perdomo score to tie the game at two.
Monday at 1:05 pm RHP Justin Collup will start for Kannapolis while Lakewood's starter is TBA.
