Chesapeake Baysox News Release
Bowie, Md. - Playing in his third game with the Baysox, outfielder Chris Marrero made quite an impression with two home runs and five RBI in the Baysox 9-3 win over the Trenton Thunder Monday evening. Marrero had three total hits on the night and recorded the Baysox second multi-home run game of the season.
Baysox starting pitcher Tyler Wilson had another great outing for the Baysox, picking up his ninth win of the season to tie him for the league lead. He threw seven innings and allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking one.
The Baysox jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning against Trenton starter Zach Nuding. Three straight batters singled to open the game with Nolan Reimold plating Ronald Bermudez from second base with a hit to left field. With two outs, Marrero singled to center field to bring home Niuman Romero from second base to give Bowie a 2-0 lead.
Trenton came back to tie the game in the top of the fourth inning against Wilson. Gary Sanchez hit a lead off single to left field and Peter O'Brien followed with a home run to center field to tie the game 2-2.
Marrero broke the 2-2 tie with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning that gave the Baysox a 3-2 lead.
The Baysox extended the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Romero hit a one-out single to shortstop followed by walks from Reimold and Christian Walker to load the bases. Dariel Alvarez brought Romero home with a groundout to shortstop and Marrero then hit a three-run homer to center field to give the Baysox a 7-2 lead.
Bowie kept the runs coming in the bottom of the sixth inning against Trenton reliever Taylor Garrison. With the bases loaded and one out, Reimold hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Walker followed with a double to left field that brought home a second run and gave the Baysox a 9-2 lead.
O'Brien hit his second home run of the game to left field in the top of the eighth inning against Baysox reliever Chris Petrini to cut the Baysox lead to 9-3.
Petrini pitched the eighth inning for the Baysox and allowed one run on two hits. Baysox reliever Mychal Givens made his Double-A debut for the Baysox in the ninth inning. He did not allow a run or a hit and struck out one batter.
Nuding took the loss for Trenton, pitching five innings and allowing seven runs on eight hits while striking out one and walking three.
