New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

PORTLAND, Maine - Jake Marisnick broke out of a mini-slump on Friday night, doubling and driving home a run in the first game of a doubleheader with the Sea Dogs. Portland rallied past Marisnick's double, however, winning the first game, 4-3, before sweeping the twinbill with a 3-1 win in game two.

The first game opened with the Fisher Cats (36-56) grabbing a first-inning lead against rehabbing Red Sox reliever Chris Carpenter. Jake Marisnick reached on an infield single, and then raced around the bases on Kenen Bailli's triple to make it a 1-0 game.

In the fourth, Mark Sobolewski came across to score, making it 2-0 on a single and a pair of errors. Leading 2-1 in the fifth, Marisnick doubled home Brian Van Kirk to build a 3-1 lead for McGuire.

It stayed 3-1 as McGuire cruised through six innings of work. In the seventh, however, gunning for his second career complete game, McGuire was greeted rudely. Bryce Brentz and Dan Butler began the frame with back-to-back home runs to tie the game at 3-3. Chris Jakubauskas came on and loaded the bases before getting out of the jam to send the game to extras.

In the first extra frame, the Sea Dogs picked up the winning run against Jakubauskas (L; 0-1). A lead-off triple was followed by a Brentz single to right field to plate the winning run, 4-3.

McGuire took a no-decision in the outing, striking out seven over 6.1 innings. He gave up three runs on five hits, all for extra bases. Chorye Spoone (W; 2-1) earned the win pitching a perfect eighth inning for Portland.

In the nightcap, New Hampshire plated another first inning run against starter Jeremy Kehrt. Ryan Goins began the frame with a single, eventually moving to third before Kevin Howard brought him home for a 1-0 lead.

The Sea Dogs (38-54) tied the game with a home run by Jeremy Hazelbaker, his second of the series, in the bottom of the first. Two innings later, starter Matt Wright issued a two-out walk that led to a two-run homer by Brentz to put the Dogs on top, 3-1.

Wright left the game after three innings, giving up three runs on three hits with a career high five walks. Steve Marek followed with two scoreless before newcomer Michael Dubee recorded a scoreless frame in his Fisher Cats debut.

Kehrt (W; 3-3) took the win for the Sea Dogs allowing one unearned run over five innings. Caleb Clay retired all six to limit the Fisher Cats to four hits in the second game of the doubleheader.

The series continues on Saturday night with RHP Chad Jenkins (4-8, 5.36) taking the ball against Stolmy Pimentel (2-4, 5.84). First pitch is at 7 PM. Radio coverage begins at 6:45 PM with Tom Gauthier on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.

The Fisher Cats return on for a four-game series with the Sea Dogs on Thursday, July 19 at 7:05 PM. The series features three nights of Atlas Fireworks and a Glow-in-the-Dark Baseball Giveaway on Sunday, July 22. For tickets and the full list of promotions, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
