Eight Unanswered Runs Push Cats Past Thunder, 9-2

(New Britain, CT) - New Britain scored eight consecutive runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to pull away and defeat the Trenton Thunder, 9-2, Friday night at New Britain Stadium. The Rock Cats scored two in the sixth, five in the seventh and one more in the eighth and evened the four-game series at one win apiece, pulling within one game of Trenton for first place in the process.

Evan Bigley's home run against Vidal Nuno (4-2) snapped a 1-1 tie with two out in the sixth, his 12th of the season and league-leading 65th RBI. Nate Hanson's RBI double two batters later chased Nuno from the game after he allowed three runs on eight hits.

Graham Stoneburner, just off the disabled list and in his first appearance since May 11, allowed six hits and five runs in the seventh. Oswaldo Arcia, Bigley, Deibinson Romero and Shawn Roof all had RBI singles in the ten-batter inning that left New Britain in the lead 8-1.

Shairon Martis (7-3) held the Thunder to one run on six hits in seven strong innings to earn the win. David Adams' RBI single in the sixth tied the score a 1 before the Rock Cats were able to pull away. Rob Segedin picked up three hits including and RBI single in the ninth.

The Thunder and Rock Cats continue the four-game series on Saturday night with first pitch slated for 7:05 pm. Left-hander Shaeffer Hall (7-6) is expected to start for Trenton while New Britain counters with lefty Blake Martin (3-3). Radio coverage on 91.3 FM (WTSR) and also streaming online begins at 6:50 pm.
