LAST GAME: The B-Mets scored seven runs on 13 hits through five innings, but mustered just three hits and no runs over the final four frames in an 11-7 loss of the Erie SeaWolves last night at NYSEG Stadium. Jamie Johnsonbroke a 6-6 tie with a sac fly in the sixth inning against reliever Armando Rodriguez. The B-Mets collected 16 hits, two shy of a season-high, but suffered their tenth home loss in their last eleven games. Jared Gayhartand Bruce Rondon pieced together four shutout innings of relief. Ramon Garcia allowed seven runs on a career-high 13 hits, but earned his seventh win. Rodriguez did not a allow a hit, but suffered his first loss.
GAME ONE, STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Cory Mazzoni (2-2, 4.50) makes his fifth start with the B-Mets and first against the SeaWolves. Mazzoni tossed seven shutout innings in a win over the Altoona Curve in his last start on July 7. Mazzoni allowed three hits and struck out six to snap a two-game losing skid. Mazzoni is searching for his first win at NYSEG Stadium after going 0-2 with a 10.80 ERA in his two starts during Binghamton's last homestand. Selected in the 2nd round of the 2011 draft out of North Carolina State, Mazzoni started his season with the St. Lucie Mets (High-A), going 5-1 with a 3.25 ERA in 12 starts in the Florida State League.
RHP Patrick Cooper (2-2, 4.71) makes his eighth start of the year with the SeaWolves and second against the B-Mets. The Kentucky native comes off a loss to the Harrisburg Senators on July 8. He conceded two runs on five hits over seven innings. Cooper started the season with the Lakeland Flying Tigers (High-A) before getting promoted to join the SeaWolves bullpen on April 12. He has three stints with Erie this season. The Kentucky native went 1-0 with a 2.53 ERA in five relief appearances with Lakeland. He was selected in the 14th round of the 2010 draft out of Bradley University.
GAME TWO, STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Mark Cohoon (4-7, 3.86) takes the mound for his 14th B-Mets start of the year and third versus the SeaWolves. Cohoon earned the win in his most recent start against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on July 6. The southpaw allowed one run over seven innings to collect his first victory since May 27. In two starts against Erie in 2012, Cohoon has gone 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA. Cohoon made two starts with the Buffalo Bisons (AAA) in June, going 0-2 with a 14.63 ERA. Tonight's game marks the most starts for Cohoon with the B-Mets in one season.
RHP David Kopp (0-0, 9.22) makes his first start in an Erie SeaWolves jersey after making seven relief appearances. Signed by the Detroit Tigers as a minor league free against in mid-May, Kopp made his debut with Erie on June 6. He faced the B-Mets on June 22 at Jerry Uht Park and was tagged for six runs on six hits over 1.2 innings.
MILESTONE GAME: Last night's game was Sean Kazmar's 999th professional contest. Signed by the New York Mets as a minor league free agent in January 2012, the veteran of nine seasons has logged 980 games in the minor leagues and 19 at the Major League level. Kazmar logged all of his big league time with the San Diego Padres in 2008.
JUST MISSED IT: B-Mets centerfielder Juan Lagares finished a triple shy of the cycle last night. He doubled in the first, homered in the fourth and singled in the fifth. Binghamton only has one cycle in franchise history, recorded by Josh Satin against the Bowie Baysox on June 24, 2011.
CRAWLING ALONG: Last night's game clocked in at 3:30, the second-longest of the season for the B-Mets. The ten games between Binghamton and Erie have totaled 30 hours and 18 minutes, an average game length of three hours, two minutes, the longest against any opponent this season.
