Akron, OH - Altoona catcher Charlie Cutler drove in the go-ahead run with a single to left field in the top of the 12th inning Thursday night, as the Curve edged the Akron Aeros, 3-2, at Canal Park.

Cutler's hit off Jose De La Torre (7-1) drove home Stefan Welch, who reached base when his grounder to third was misplayed by Davis Stoneburner. Welch went to second on sacrifice bunt by Jarek Cunningham and scored on Cutler's hit.

Five Curve pitchers combined on a three-hitter. Those five hurlers also recorded 16 strikeouts, the most whiffs by Aeros hitters in a game this year.

Logan Kensing (2-0) fanned four in two innings and picked up the win. Kris Harvey saved it with a perfect 12th, his second save of the season.

Matt Lawson had an infield hit with the bases loaded in the second inning. An error on the play resulted in a 2-0 Aeros lead. The hit extended Lawson's hitting streak to nine straight games.

T.J. House started for the Aeros and pitched brilliantly for 7 2/3 innings. He took a 2-1 lead in to the eighth, but gave up a triple and walk before turning things over to the bullpen with two outs. Closer Preston Guilmet came on and surrendered a hit to Altoona's Oscar Tejada to tie the game, 2-2, and set the stage for extra innings.

The Aeros (52-39) remained 3 =C21/2 games ahead of second place Harrisburg, who lost at home to Richmond, 12-3.

The Curve won for the first time in seven tries at Canal Park this season. The Curve and Aeros have played three extra-inning games. Thursday's game rivaled a 13-inning affair, won by the Aeros back on April 29th.

The Aeros and Curve will play game two of the series Friday night at 7:05. RHP Kyle McPherson (1-3, 4.37) will start for Altoona, and RHP Steven Wright (6-6, 2.62) will start for Akron. All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at 330-253-5151.
