Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron, OH - Akron righthander Steven Wright took a no-hitter to the seventh inning Friday night, and settled for his seventh win of the season as the Aeros shut out the Altoona Curve, 3-0, at Canal Park.
Wright (7-6) threw no-hit ball for six innings Friday, the second time this season he has carried a no-hit bid into the seventh inning. He allowed a clean single to Adalberto Santos leading off the seventh on his 102nd and final pitch of the night. Wright walked five and struck out four.
Tyler Holt's RBI double in the third inning gave the Aeros a 1-0 lead against Curve starter (1-4). Thomas Neal came up in the fourth and lined a homer just over the wall in left for his seventh home run of the season. Roberto Perez added a sacrifice fly later in the inning to make it 3-0.
The Aeros bullpen did the rest. Bryan Price came on in relief of Wright and tossed two scoreless frames. Preston Guilmet turned in a perfect ninth for his 13th save.
After being held to just three hits in a 12-inning, 3-2 loss on Thursday, the Aeros turned the tables and held the Curve to just three hits during Friday's whitewash.
The Aeros turned three nifty double-plays in the game, including two during Price's two innings.
The Aeros and Curve will play game three of the series Saturday night at 7:05. RHP Gerrit Cole (2-1, 4.63) will start for Altoona. Indians lefty Rafael Perez is scheduled to make a one inning rehab appearance for Akron. RHP Brett Brach (3-4, 4.69) is the regularly scheduled starter for the Aeros. All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at 330-253-5151.
