Madison Mallards News Release

Madison, WI - The Mallards get back into the win column with a 7-4 victory in Fond du Lac on Saturday night. The second road trip of the season starts off with a win after dropping three straight: two to Wisconsin Rapids and one to Fond du Lac.

Madison was the first to score for the fourth time through six games in the 2nd inning thanks to a Tyler Hare double that scored leadoff walks from Payton Smith and Christian Rivera. The Dock Spiders responded immediately in the bottom half off Mallards' starter Justin Miller (3.0 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 4 K) with a two-out two run triple from 9-hole hitter Evan Smith to give Fond du Lac a 3-2 lead. The Ducks brushed off the three-run Fondy response with a string of good teamwork. Marcus Brodil, Javier Beal, and Josh Caron led off the 3rd inning by reaching. A wild pitch from Dock Spiders' starter Reed Gallant (3.0 IP, 3 H, 3 BB) scored Brodil, a Payton Smith sacrifice fly scored Beal, and a Christian Rivera single scored Caron to retake the lead 5-3.

The scoring took a pause until the 5th inning when both teams were on relief arms. J.J. Rollon had his first hit as a Mallard with a double to left field, scoring Caron. The Dock Spiders swing back with a solo run in the bottom half with Evan Smith scoring on a passed ball thrown by Seth Marano (W, 1-1). Marano was very impressive as the third arm out of the bullpen for Donnie Scott's crew. Marano lasted three and a third and only allowed the one unearned run. The only true trouble that Marano found himself in was in the bottom of the 8th inning. With runners on the corners and just one out, the Mallards turned to Steven Lacey (S, 1) to flip the shutdown button. Lacey struck out cleanup hitter Connor Manthey and then got Stephen Schissler to bounce out to end the threat. After the Mallards tacked on one more run as insurance in the 9th, Lacey struck out the side to snap the Ducks losing streak at three.

Josh Caron and Christian Rivera were the two Mallards with multi-hit games. Javier Beal extends his hit streak to cover all six games played this season.

The Mallards complete the two-day road trip as they travel to Green Bay to face off against the newly rebranded Rockers for their first matchup of the season. The Ducks will be on a short night's rest after returning back from Fond du Lac to Warner Park. Madison coverage can be found on Mixlr (MadisonMallards) at 12:55 PM with first pitch at 1:05 PM.
