Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters (1-5) left bases loaded twice in a 6-5 loss to the Battle Creek Battle Jacks (4-2), their first five-game losing streak in franchise history.

The offense got it going in the first. Colin Summerhill doubled home the first run and came around to score on Jake Smallwood's triple.

Derek Clark did his best to hold the lead. The lefty went 4 2/3 innings, striking out five and allowing just two hits. He had a streak of 11 straight batters retired at one point.

After a call to the bullpen, Battle Creek took advantage in the sixth, scoring four runs. They put five straight runners on base before recording an out. They added another in the eighth to go up 5-2.

Not giving up, the Pit Spitters mounted a huge rally in the bottom of the ninth. After a one-out walk, Jared Miller doubled off the wall, bringing the tying run to the plate. Alec Atkinson singled home one run. The next batter Lukas White doubled home another. Taking matters into his own hands, Atkinson stole home to tie the game.

The Pit Spitters loaded the bases with one out in the inning but couldn't cash in and left them loaded. After Battle Creek took the lead in the tenth, Traverser City loaded the bases again with just one out. But once again, they couldn't convert on the opportunity and left them loaded to end the game.

The Pit Spitters have been swept in back-to-back series and are losers of five straight. They've lost four in a row twice before, but for the first time in history they have lost their fifth straight game.
