Rockers Drop Fifth Straight Game in Loss to Woodchucks
June 4, 2022 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Ashwaubenon, Wis. - The Green Bay Rockers fell to the Wausau Woodchucks 1-0 Saturday night at Capital Credit Union Park after the Woodchucks plated one run home in the ninth inning to sweep the Rockers.
The Rockers drop to 1-5 on the season while the Woodchucks improve to 3-3 on the season, winning their third straight game.
Through the first two innings, both pitchers set the tone as Justin Loer wasted no time in his Rockers debut striking out three batters in the first two innings and setting the tone for Green Bay.
However, the Rockers offense, left runners on base in each of the first three innings, keeping the score deadlocked at 0-0 through the first three innings.
Both teams went scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings, despite Loer cruising along with seven strikeouts through four innings of play.
The Rockers could not get any offense as well, going scoreless heading into the sixth as both teams had a combined six hits in five innings played.
Loer got his eighth strikeout in the sixth inning, as his off-speed pitches gave the Woodchucks fits throughout the first half of the game, setting up a crucial final three innings of play, with the score still at 0-0 through six innings.
After the Woodchucks got two runners on base in the seventh, they were both stranded as a groundout ended scoring the threat by Wausau.
Logan Berrier came on in relief in the eighth and struck out the side to keep the game locked up at zeros apiece, but the Rockers could not capitalize following the strikeout as the game headed to the ninth still scoreless on both sides.
The Woodchucks broke through in the ninth, scoring one run off an RBI groundout, and taking a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of ninth.
Despite a leadoff single from Griffin Selby, a strikeout ended the game as the Rockers dropped their fifth straight game.
The Rockers will take on the Madison Mallards for the first time this season Sunday at 1:05 p.m. with the pregame concert performed by Mark Croft starting at 12:05 p.m.
The first 500 kids to attend the game will receive a Youth Jersey Giveaway presented by Fleet Farm and WFRV Channel 5. Fans will also be able to play on the catch on the field postgame courtesy of Capital Credit Union.
