December 30, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill.- Sean Flanagan scored twice and Brandon Marino provided a goal and two assists as the host Quad City Mallards defeated the Dayton Gems 6-1 Friday night. With the win- the Mallards' third in a row- Quad City improved to 10-2-1 in the month of December.
The Mallards jumped in front 2-0 when Flanagan and Marino- who scored on the power play- each buried a rebound in a span of just over two minutes midway through the first period. Dayton's Nick Fanto cut the Quad City lead in half by jamming in a loose puck from the doorstep at 14:21 of the first, but Obi Aduba's drive from the top of the left wing circle reestablished the two-goal Mallard lead and kicked of a run of four unanswered goals at 17:57.
"We knew that we were the fresher team and we took advantage of it and had a good start," said Mallards coach and general manager David Bell.
The Mallards broke the game open with a pair of second period goals. Jared Lavender's one timer stretched the gap to three goals at 6:23 of the second; at 11:05 the Mallards were on the power play when John Snowden's one timer from the top of the left wing circle made it 5-1.
Flanagan scored his second of the night from the right wing circle to cap off the Mallard onslaught just 1:26 of the third period.
The Mallards travel to Dayton for a rematch with the Gems tomorrow night. The Mallards next play at home next Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Wichita Thunder.
