Madison Mallards News Release
Kenosha, WI - Madison completed their road trip on Thursday night in Kenosha with a 6-5 loss against the Kingfish.
The hosts gave Mallards' starter Jon McCullough a cold welcome to his first start of the year with back-to-back home runs hit in the bottom of the 1st inning off the bats of Cole Gober and Camden Janik.
Madison's offense, although scoreless through the first three frames, was anything but quiet. The Mallards loaded the bases twice against Greg Martinez in his four innings of work and he was able to strand three runners both times by retiring Jake Goolsby. It took Donnie Scott's crew until the 4th inning to scratch the scoreboard against Martinez when Cal Fisher and Ryan Sprock singled in runs.
Following the powerful 1st inning for Kenosha, McCullough settled in nicely, taking down the next nine batters. The Kingfish would tack on three more against the right-hander in the 5th and 6th innings. In the 6th, McCullough was pulled for Andres Kleinsek who would give the Mallards a strong effort that would last the rest of the contest.
Madison would tie the game in the top of the 7th on Jayden Lobliner's first knock of the day and Jackson Tucker's triple that scored two to even the score 5-5. The bottom of the 7th was the difference in the ballgame when Kleinsek balked, scoring Tucker Zdunich to score the eventual winning run.
The team returns to Warner Park for the first time in the second half tomorrow night to finish their series with Kenosha with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 P.M. CST.
