Magic Force Win Over Skyforce

The Lakeland Magic, NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, defeat the Sioux Falls Skyforce 104-100 on Tuesday at the Sandford Pentagon.

The first quarter was back and forth as neither team could gain a large lead. Magic big man Robert Baker had a stunning first quarter with eight points, four rebounds, and three steals. Skyforce forward Jamal Cain had 11 points and four rebounds. After nine lead changes, the first quarter ended in a tie 27-27.

The second quarter was another tight-knit performance from both clubs. Sioux Falls went on an 11-2 run at the end of the quarter giving the Skyforce the lead 51- 46 at the end of the half.

The Magic opened the quarter strong with a nine-to-zero run, leading 55-51 with 9:39 on the clock. Though the Magic put forth their best effort Cain was putting on a scoring clinic. Cain had a total of 17 points in the third quarter helping the Skyforce lead at the end of the third 79-76.

The fourth quarter was filled with ties and lead changes with neither team ever leading by a large margin. Magic Guard Jay Scrubb hit a three-point shot to reclaim the lead with 2:40 remaining in the game. The Magic would end up winning 104-100. "The Skyforce are a great defensive team, we had to get past adversity in the second half and secure this win on the road. Having multiple players from Orlando come play with us recently has been a great addition to our team. The organization does a tremendous job at making sure we run the same system between both clubs and having high-character players," Simpson said.

Zavier Simpson finished with 22 points and eight assists. Orlando Magic 2022 second-round pick, Caleb Houstan made his NBA G League debut scoring 24 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Robert Baker collected a double-double scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals.

Jamal Cain finished with a double-double scoring 36 points and 14 rebounds.

The Lakeland Magic (6-3) will face the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Thursday, January 19 at the Sanford Pentagon at 7:30 PM on ESPN+.
