
Lyerly Cleans Up, Dogs Topple Rome, 7-1

CHARLESTON, SC - Rob Lyerly went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI to lead the Charleston RiverDogs over Rome Braves, 7-1, in front 2,396 fans in South Atlantic League action at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park Tuesday night.
With the win Charleston takes the series 3-1 and climbs to 27-32, while Rome drops to 25-34.
Lyerly, a native of Indian Trail, N.C., posted his first three-RBI effort since April 8 in stroking a RBI single off Brett DeVall in the first to start the scoring at 1-0.
Charleston starter Mike Solbach threw scoreless ball through the first four innings, but allowed a lead off home run to Braeden Schlehuber in the fifth to tie the score at 1-1.
Charleston assumed control from that point taking a 2-1 lead in the bottom half on Lyerly's bases-loaded walk.
Kelvin Castro started the sixth against reliever Dalton Acord with his first SAL home run to up the lead to 3-1.
Two runs came plateward in the seventh for a 5-1 lead on Lyerly's RBI double to deep right-centerfield and Francisco Arcia's two-out RBI single to left field.
Rome reliever Jeff Lorick struck out the first two RiverDogs in the eighth before Kyle Higashioka reached on a dropped pop up. After Jimmy Paredes walked, Luke Murton stroked a two-out, two-run double out of the reach of the diving right fielder Cory Harrilchak to account for the 7-1 final score.
Solbach (1-1), in his second start of 2010, notched his first victory in 5.0 innings of one-run ball with two walks and five strikeouts. DeVall (2-4) lost for the third time in four starts, surrendering two runs on six hits in his 5.0 innings with a season-high four walks and five punchouts.
Ronny Marte worked 2.0 scoreless frames getting a key double play groundout from Harrilchak to wrap up the seventh, while All-Star reliever Ryan Flannery pitched 2.0 hitless innings to finish the contest.
Eight of nine RiverDog starters had a hit paced by two each from Lyerly, Paredes and Arcia. Christian Bethancourt added two hits for Rome.
Charleston heads to Hagerstown, Md. to take on the Hagerstown Suns, the Single-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, for a three-game series from June 10-12. Thursday's 7:05 p.m. contest features Charleston sending right-hander Jose Ramirez (2-4, 2.93) to the mound to take on Hagerstown's right-hander Trevor Holder (4-3, 2.97).
FUN AT THE BALLPARK: It was another BI-LO Two for Tuesday, with two-for-one ticket discounts and Kraft Singles Tuesday Night Tickets, a sweet deal with a Kraft wrapper. 'There's no "I" in the A-Team' has got the crowd pumped for BA Baracas, Face, Murdock and Hannibal's big screen debuts as the team gave away tickets to see the new movie with some in-game contests. Tuesday's activities were all presented by BI-LO, Kraft, 98.9 Chick FM and The CW.
