Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

SAVANNAH, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats (32-25) left 13 runners on base in falling to the Kannapolis Intimidators 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Historic Grayson Stadium.

Savannah had base runners in every inning except the first, and loaded the bases in the fourth and ninth innings. However, both of Savannah's bases loaded opportunities ended with a Gnat taking a called third strike. The Gnats outhit the Intimidators 10-6, but every one of the Gnats' 10 hits was a single, while the Intimidators (28-28) clubbed three doubles. The Gnats finished 1-12 with runners in scoring position.

The Intimidators scored the game's only runs in the top of the first inning. With one out, 1B Ian Gac doubled home two runs to give the Intimidators a 2-0 lead. Gnats' starter Collin McHugh settled in after the first. He threw a season-high eight innings, yielding just one earned run and striking out seven. He retired the final 13 batters to face him from the end of the fourth through the eighth inning.

LF Juan Lagares was 3-5 for Savannah to run his hitting streak to seven straight games.

The Gnats and Intimidators will play a double header, consisting of two-seven inning games, beginning at 5:35 pm on Monday evening to make up for Saturday's rainout. RHP Brandon Moore (2-4, 2.29) is scheduled to take on LHP Matt Wickswat (5-4, 4.64) in game one with RHP Armando Rodriguez (2-4, 3.42) hooking up with RHP Justin Collop (3-4, 6.66) in the nightcap.
