Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Greenville, SC - Ryan Verdugo's seventh inning throwing error turned a potential double play into a three-run seventh inning, the difference in a 4-1 Greenville Drive victory over the Augusta GreenJackets in the finale of the season series between the two teams on Tuesday night.

Despite the loss, the GreenJackets finish their season series with an 8-4 record over the Drive and still salvage a 4-4 record in the first eight-game road trip since late April and last eight-gamer of the first half.

With two on and one out in the seventh, Reymond Fuentes hit a tapper right back to Verdugo on the mound. The lefty turned and whipped his throw to second behind shortstop Juan Martinez and as the throw sailed into center field, Ronald Bermudez scored the go-ahead run for the Drive. Reynaldo Rodriguez would follow with a bloop single to right to score two more runs and provide the backbreaking blow for Greenville.

Jeremy Hazelbaker got the Drive on the board from the get-go, becoming the first player in the team's five-year history to lead off either half of the first inning with a home run to put Greenville up 1-0. For the second straight night, the Jackets rallied to tie things in the fifth. Nick Liles drove in the tying run on the third of three Augusta singles in the inning to tie the game at one apiece.

Jeremy Toole (2-2) was the hard luck loser after departing a tie game in the seventh. In his longest start of the season, Toole allowed three runs - two earned - on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts. He left after allowing two hits in the sixth - both of which led to runs after the Verdugo throwing error.

Tom Ebert (4-1) dealt five innings of one-run relief following Greenville starter Drake Britton. Ebert allowed two hits and didn't walk anyone while striking out seven.

The GreenJackets will have their first day off in nearly a month on Wednesday and return home Thursday to open up a three-game series with the Hickory Crawdads. Kyle Vazquez (4-2, 3.17) gets the ball for Augusta on Thirsty Thursday, with dollar domestic drafts and soft drinks available all night long. First pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
