Lutes' three goals lift Gems to 4-0 win over Bloomington

Heading into Friday night's game against Bloomington, Dayton Gems forward Brett Lutes was in the middle of the stat sheet for goals scored for the Gems this season.

When the night was over, Lutes was at the top.

Lutes scored a career high three goals against the Prairie Thunder to lead the Gems to a 4-0. His 8 goals this season tie him with Chris Lipsett and Erik Boisvert for the team lead in goals scored this season.

Defensively goaltender Jeff Jakaitis did his share of work in front of the goal for Dayton. Jakaitis recorded 44 saves to give the Gems their first shutout victory of the season.

The Gems scored safely in each period of the game. Lutes started the scoring off for the Gems late in the first period with a goal at the 2:36 mark.

In the second period Lutes scored again with 4:26 remaining on the clock. Lutes then scored his third goal in the third period at the 15:05 mark.

Lutes wasn't the only Gems player to score on the night. Jonathon Ornelas rounded out the scoring for the Gems with a goal with 8:57 remaining in the game.

Mike Vaskivu and Corey Couturier each had three assists on the night. Each player recorded two assists to Lute and an each had an assist to Ornelas.

The Gems are back in action on the road tomorrow night against Fort Wayne at 7:35.
