Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
BOSSIER CITY, La.- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (11-12-3) completed the two game sweep of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs (18-9-0) on Friday night with a 4-2 victory. Sean Muncy potted a pair of goals, as did Tomas Klempa. The Bees have won three games in a row, all on the road, and have earned a point in four-straight games dating back to an overtime loss to Arizona on Dec. 11.
The second period was the polar opposite of the first. While the first period saw both teams held scoreless in the second frame each team scored a pair of goals. The Killer Bees struck first with Sean Muncy's 10th goal of the season at the 4:03.
Matt Smyth took a shot on net and Sean Muncy was there to collect the rebound and bury it past Mudbugs netminder John DeCaro.
The 'Bugs would score the next two goals of the game at 7:45 and 11:27 of the second period with the former being a shorthanded goal scored by Justin Aikins. Jeff Martens would score the second goal after a rebound off Pagliero.
The Bees tied the game when Sean Muncy scored his second goal of the game, fourth in the last two games at the 17:09 mark. Dan Gendur created pressure behind that net and it forced the Bossier-Shreveport defense to attempt to clear the puck and after the bad clear the puck was alone in front for Muncy. Muncy wasted no time taking a shot which beat DeCaro on the ice on the stick side.
The Bees took their first lead of the game in the third period when Tomas Klempa scored his 11th goal of the season. Wilson had the puck in front of a large collection of Mudbugs players and as he was being brought to the ice took a shot on net that somehow snuck past the goal line along the fair side post.
Bossier-Shreveport would continue to threaten on the third but Juliano Pagliero continued to turn away puck after puck as the Bees held the lead. Tomas Klempa would net and empty netter to ice the game as the Bees completed the sweep of the Mudbugs.
The Killer Bees four-game road trip continues tomorrow night in Laredo at 7:30 p.m.
