Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - For the second consecutive night the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees outscored the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in the third period to earn a 4-2 win Friday night at the CenturyTel Center. The Bees outscored the Mudbugs 3-0 in the third period over the course of two nights to sweep the back-to-back set in Bossier City.

Justin Aikins and Jeff Martens scored the two goals for the ‚¬ËœBugs, who have now lost three straight games for the first time this season and have also lost their last three at home. Bossier-Shreveport outshot Rio Grande Valley 30-20 in the game, including an 11-6 margin in the third period.

The teams combined for 13 shots in a scoreless opening frame, with nine of those belonging to the Mudbugs. The ‚¬ËœBugs missed on two powerplay chances in the first and the Killer Bees were 0 for 3 after failing to score on 1:20 worth of 5-on-3 powerplay time carrying over into the second period.

Rio Grande Valley then scored the first goal, going up 1-0 as Sean Muncy beat John DeCaro at 4:03 of the second. The Mudbugs answered on a beautiful shorthanded goal from Aikins, who split two defenders before beating Juliano Pagliero through the five-hole to tie it. The home team then went on top 2-1 when Brett Smith ‚¬â„¢s long shot hit Steven Crampton and bounced right to Jeff Martens, who tapped it into an open net at 11:27.

Rio Grande tied it back up late in the period however as Muncy picked up a Mudbugs turnover in front and snuck it past DeCaro to make it 2-2 going into the third. Tomas Klempa then put the Bees back on top, sweeping the puck toward the net and into the net off the skate of a Mudbug in front. Klempa then added the empty-netter to seal the 4-2 win for Rio Grande Valley.

John DeCaro stopped 16 shots in his second straight loss, while Juliano Pagliero turned aside 28 pucks to earn the victory. Neither team scored on the powerplay with the ‚¬ËœBugs finishing 0 for 4 and the Bees going 0 for 5.

The Mudbugs will now venture to Southaven, Mississippi to finish out a three-in-three set tomorrow night against the RiverKings. Opening puck drop is set for 7:05 with pregame radio coverage starting at 6:45 pm on AM 1130 KWKH. The game can also be seen live online on CHL-TV.
