Allen Americans News Release
ALLEN, Texas- Skating as the Dallas Freeze in the first game of the 2010 North Texas Vintage Series, the Allen Americans defeated the Texas Brahmas (Fort Worth Fire) 5-3 tonight in front of 3,855 fans at the Allen Event Center.
The Brahmas opened up the scoring with a pair of goals late in the opening period. Defenseman Greg Hogeboom found the back of the net first on the power play at 15:14, followed by forward Chris Moran 1:04 later.
The Americans would fire right back with a goal from Brian McMillin with 2:40 remaining in the first to cut the Brahmas lead to 2-1 heading into the first intermission. The tally was McMillin's second as an American, with both goals having come at home.
The second period saw the Americans strike with a pair of power play goals to erase the early deficit. Judd Blackwater would collect his own rebound and deposit the puck past Wayne Savage 3:43 into the period to tie the game at 2. Jarret Lukin, playing in his first game since November 27, added his seventh of the season 3:10 later to give Allen their first lead of the night at 3-2.
Chris Moran's second goal of the night 2:02 into the third period tied the game at 3 for the Brahmas but was answered quickly by the Americans when Justin DaCosta's shot found it's way through Savage and into the net to put Allen back on top 4-3 with 14:46 remaining in regulation.
David Nimmo would put the game away and end any chance of a Brahmas comeback with an empty-net goal with 43.1 seconds remaining to extend the Americans lead to 5-3.
Newcomer Scott Campbell was strong in net once again and finished the night with 23 saves on 26 shots.
With the victory, the Americans improve to 18-4-1 and move back into first place in the Berry Conference with 37 points.
Head Coach Dwight Mullins has now clinched the coaching position for the Berry Conference in the upcoming CHL All Star Game. Mullins received the nod after tonight's game in which Allen clinched the best winning percentage in the conference before the Christmas break.
The Americans will finish off their pre-Christmas schedule with two more games at the Allen Event Center beginning tomorrow night at 7:00 against the Tulsa Oilers. Allen will then faceoff against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Tuesday night at 7:30.
