Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - The achievements keep coming for the Clinton LumberKings. With a 5-3 win over the Burlington Bees on Friday night at Ashford University Field, the LumberKings picked up win number 45, the most in a half by any Clinton baseball team in 76 years.

Clinton won their seventh consecutive game and has now won 14 of their last 15 games. By sweeping the seven-game home stand, the LumberKings finished the home schedule with 40 wins and 30 losses.

Addison Russell and Max Muncy hit back-to-back doubles in the first inning to give Burlington a 1-0 lead. Clinton bounced right back when Dillon Hazlett and Jamal Austin collected first inning singles to get things rolling. Red-hot Dan Paolini continued his hot streak with a run-scoring base hit to even things at 1-1. Ramon Morla hit a fly ball deep enough to score Austin to give Clinton a 2-1 lead.

The seesaw battle continued in the second as Wade Kirkland launched a two-run home run to put the Bees back on top, 3-2. It was Hazlett who started another rally with a lead off double in the third inning. He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Paolini groundout. Paolini now has a nine-game hitting streak (19 for 39 with 10 runs, 15 RBIs).

The 3-3 tie lasted until Morla picked up his second RBI of the season with a base hit to score Paolini. Jharmidy De Jesus added an insurance run with a booming home run down the left-field line in the seventh inning. It was De Jesus' sixth home run of the season.

LumberKings starter Bobby Shore went five innings before giving way to the dominant Clinton bullpen. It was Jeremy Dobbs' turn and he did not disappoint, pitching three scoreless innings to earn his fifth win of the year. Dobbs handed off to Matt Brazis in the ninth and he worked around a one-out base hit by Royce Consigli to earn his fifth save of the season.

Three games remain for the LumberKings in the regular season before the playoffs begin on Wednesday, September 5 against Beloit at Ashford University Field. Clinton travels to Cedar Rapids for a three-game series set to begin Saturday night. The LumberKings send right-hander Mayckol Guaipe (5-0, 3.15) to the mound to pitch against Cedar Rapids right-hander Cam Bedrosian (3-11, 6.57). First pitch from Perfect Game Field is scheduled for 6:35.
