
Hawks Edged in Home Finale, 5-4

South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
The South Bend Silver Hawks (66-71, 31-36) dropped their home finale Friday, falling 5-4 to the Lansing Lugnuts in front of 6,104 fans at Coveleski Stadium. The Silver Hawks play just three more regular season games during the 2012 season.
Brandon Berl (4-7) took the win for the Lugnuts, hurling two scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Tyler Green (4-9) was saddled with the loss, allowing five earned runs on five hits over 6.2 innings. The right-hander walked two and struck out six. Ajay Meyer recorded the final four outs and notched his league-leading 33rd save.
The Silver Hawks trailed 5-0 heading into the eighth inning but exploded for four runs on three hits to pull to within a run. Ryan Court started the rally with a double and later scored on a throwing error from Ian Kadish. Chris Ellison followed with a two-RBI single to knock Kadish out of the game. Next, Sean Jamieson stroked an RBI double to pull the Silver Hawks to within a run.
Chris Hawkins paced the Lugnuts with a 2-for-4 performance. The Lugnuts scored five runs in the seventh inning to take the first lead of the game. Dalton Pompey hit a two-run triple and Kevin Patterson hit a solo home run in the inning.
Noah Syndergaard started for the Lugnuts and did not factor in the decision. The right-hander worked five scoreless innings and struck out nine.
The Silver Hawks lost 11 out of 15 games against the Lugnuts this season.
Frank Santana worked 1.1 scoreless innings out of the Silver Hawks bullpen. Alex Capaul did not allow a run over an unblemished ninth inning.
The Silver Hawks hit the road Saturday to begin a three-game series with the Great Lakes Loons. Left-hander Keith Hessler (2-4, 3.43) starts for South Bend and he will be opposed by right-hander Joel Lima (1-0, 4.90).
