PEORIA, Ill. - The Kernels ended up on top of the Peoria Chiefs 11-7 in a lengthy, back and forth, 10-inning battle on Thursday night. The game, which lasted 4 hours and 1 minute, featured 33 hits. 18 of the hits belonged to the Kernels, which tied a season-high.

Frazier Hall's bases-clearing RBI double in the top of the 10th inning broke a 7-7 tie and gave the Kernels the lead for good. Eric Stamets doubled down the left field line to begin the 10th inning. Alex Yarbrough's sacrifice bunt moved Stamets to 3rd base. Zach Borenstein was intentionally walked while Andy Workman was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hall's ringing RBI double was pulled off the wall in right field, giving the Kernels a 10-7 lead. The Kernels added a run, making the score 11-7, when Hall scored as Abel Baker reached on a throwing error by Chiefs 1st baseman Jacob Rogers.

Luis Liria (2-5) took the loss for Peoria, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) in the 10th inning. R.J. Alvarez (3-2) recorded the win for the Kernels. Alvarez pitched 2 innings and allowed 0 runs on 2 hits. With the game tied 7-7 in the 9th the Chiefs put the potential go-ahead run at 3rd base, but Alvarez struck out Oliver Zapata to send the game to extra innings. This came after the Kernels offense left the bases loaded in the top of the 9th inning.

Peoria took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning with Jorge Soler's RBI single over a leaping Trevor Hairgrove at 3rd base. The Kernels took a 2-1 lead in the 3rd inning on Zach Borenstein's 2-run home run onto the berm in left center field. Peoria tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Pin-Chieh Chen tripled and scored, on the same play, via a throwing error by Kernels shortstop Eric Stamets.

The Kernels rebounded to score twice in the 4th inning, taking a 4-2 lead. Two doubles in the inning led to a couple runs. Frazier Hall doubled and scored on Abel Baker's RBI double. Baker later scored on Trevor Hairgrove's RBI sacrifice fly. However, the Chiefs tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the 4th inning on a 2-RBI double by Sergio Burruel.

Again, the game wasn't tied for long as the Kernels plated a run in the 5th inning to take a 5-4 lead. Doubles were again the key to scoring. Zach Borenstein doubled, and Andy Workman's RBI double plated Borenstein to put the Kernels up by a run.

That lead didn't last either for long either as Peoria plated a run in the bottom of the 5th inning. Jacob Rogers drew a bases-loaded walk to send Pin-Chieh Chen home, tying the game 5-5. After no scoring in the 6th inning, Peoria took a 6-5 lead in the 7th inning. Wes Darvill's RBI single scored Jacob Rogers.

In the 8th inning scored twice to take a 7-6 lead on 5 straight, 2-out singles. Abel Baker and Kevin Moesquit began the rally. Trevor Hairgrove's RBI single scored Baker. Eric Stamets then singled to load the bases before Alex Yarbrough's RBI single brought Moesquit home.

Staying true to form, the Chiefs tied the game 7-7 in the bottom of the 8th inning. Zeke DeVoss singled home Oliver Zapata. Joe Melioris made the start for the Kernels after scheduled starter Arjenis Fernandez was scratched. Melioris went 4 innings, allowing 4 runs (3 earned). Logan Odom went 2 innings and allowed 1 run. Nick Mutz pitched 2 innings, allowing 2 runs.

Knuckle-baller Joe Zeller started for the Chiefs, allowing 5 runs over 6.2 innings. Sheldon McDonald allowed 2 runs over 1 inning. Larry Suarez went 1.1 innings, allowing no runs.
