LumberKings Win.....Move Closer to Playoffs
September 3, 2004 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Clinton LumberKings News Release
Clinton (Low A -- Midwest League) @ Clinton 5, Quad Cities 4
In their final regular season home game, the LumberKings (37-29) moved one large step closer to obliterating Quad Cities'(33-33) playoff hopes with their third straight win.
The two clubs now move to the Quad Cities to finish up with a four game set and Clinton is closer to catching MWL Western Divsion leader Kane County (39-27) than to anyone chasing them for second place.
Matt Farnum (4.45) struggled a bit for the first time in a month, but gave Clinton five and two-thirds nonetheless as the Swing got to the former A&M Aggie for four runs on nine hits and a pair of walks before 2003 MWL all-star Cesar Herrera (8-3; 3.69) took the ball and shut out Quad Cities over the final three and a third, allowing just three base hits without issuing a base on balls.
Former Arkansas Razorback catcher Cody Clark stayed hot with a 4-4 night at the dish with a double and a pair of RBIs and Justin Hatcher plated two with a double in four trips.
