Burlington, IA - The Kansas City Royals have added RHP Rusty Begnaud to the Burlington Bees active roster and placed OF Kenard Springer on the inactive list. Springer returned home to Mississippi on Friday due to a death in the family.
The Royals signed Begnaud this June as a non-drafted free agent out of McNeese State University. The New Siberia, Louisiana native made his professional debut in the Arizona Rookie League and went 4-3 with a 3.74 ERA and one save in 14 games including 10 starts. In 65 innings, he allowed 71 hits and 36 runs (27 earned) while walking ten and striking out 75. With McNeese this year, he finished 6-5 with a 4.44 ERA, tying for the team lead in wins, and was named 3rd-team All-Southland Conference. He finished his college career ranked 5th in wins, 2nd in innings pitched, 3rd in strikeouts, and 6th in appearances in school history.
