Wizards put a spell n the Rattlers

FOX CITIES STADIUM -- Fort Wayne starting pitcher Travis Chick struck out ten Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and gave up just one run on four hits in a 13-2 Wizard win Friday night at Fox Cities Stadium. Chris Kohlkhorst homered and scored four runs for Fort Wayne. Brian Wahlbrink and Brett Bonvechio each had three hits, two runs scored, and two RBI for the Wizards.
Fort Wayne (69-68 overall, 36-31 second half) got out to the early lead with an RBI grounder by Fernando Valenzuela, Jr. in the first inning. Valenzuela delivered an RBI single in the top of the third to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Wizards.
Wisconsin (57-79, 26-41) got to within 2-1 on a two-out solo home run by Eric Blakeley in the bottom of the third.
But, Wahlbrink knocked in two runs with a two-out double in the top of the fourth inning to give the Wizards a 4-1 lead. Fort Wayne extended their lead to 6-1 with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Chick worked six innings without walking any batters and ran his record to 5-0 in seven starts for the Wizards.
In the seventh, Fort Wayne scored seven runs on just three hits. There were three walks, a hit batsman, and an error. The big hit was a three run home run to right by Kohlkhorst.
A sacrifice fly by Michael Cox in the bottom of the ninth inning drove home Blakeley with the second Wisconsin run.
Game two of the series is Saturday night at Fox Cities Stadium. Brandon Moorhead (9-9, 3.24ERA) will make the start for Wisconsin. Sean Thompson (8-6, 3.13ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Wizards. Game time is 7:05pm.
