Clinton LumberKings News Release
CLINTON, IA - A three-run homer by Harrison Wenson was the decisive factor in the Clinton LumberKings 4-3 loss to the Burlington Bees on Friday night at NelsonCorp Field. The loss marks a series defeat to Burlington (20-33, 59-64) that drops the LumberKings (31-22, 64-58) to four games back of first place.
The LumberKings held one brief lead over the course of the night with a first inning run against Bees starter Clayton Chatham. Christopher Torres singled to open the game and moved to second on a wild pitch before J.D. Osborne scored him from second on a sacrifice fly to center field.
The lead was short lived, as Burlington took the lead for good in the top of the second. LumberKings starter Josh Roberson allowed a leadoff single to Adrian Rondon and then walk to Francisco Del Valle before striking out the next two batters. Harrison Wenson then slugged a three-run homer to left for his 10th of the year - the ball was estimated to have traveled 397 feet.
Roberson (1-4) was hung with the loss for his time out. He worked three innings, allowing four runs on four hits while walking one and striking out three.
In the top of the third inning, Burlington added to their lead. Livan Soto singled to open the inning and then scored on a Jordyn Adams RBI double to left center field.
Clinton rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull to with one run but got no closer. Evan Edwards chased home the first run of the inning with an RBI single that forced Chatham (2-2) from the game. Two batters later, Davis Bradshaw singled home what turned out to be the final run of the night.
Chatham earned the win for Burlington with a 5.1 inning outing. He allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits while walking none and striking out five.
The LumberKings will now hit the road for a four-game series with the first place Kane County Cougars starting on Saturday night. Clinton will throw righty Tanner Andrews (5-4, 4.04) while Kane County will tap righty Matt Tabor (5-4, 3.06). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (CDT).
