Clinton, IA - For the second consecutive night, the Clinton LumberKings (24-41) and the Quad Cities River Bandits (42-22) went into extra innings. In different fashion than Tuesday night's 6-5 Clinton win, Wednesday's game went into the 10th inning scoreless, and Jamie Ritchie proved to be the hero with a two-run home run off of Ronald Dominguez (L, 0-1).

The first eight innings were rather uneventful for both offenses, as Pat Peterson (ND) and Jorge Perez (ND) were both great in their start. Peterson went a season high 7.1 innings and allowed only four hits, while Perez, in just his second start and fifth appearance of the season, allowed just two hits and struck out five over five innings. Both pitchers left in a scoreless game and neither faced much of a threat over their respective outing.

Peterson worked out of a two on, one-out jam in the second, but did not allow more than one base runner in any other inning, as just one man reached third base over his start. Clinton had two hits and drew a walk vs. Perez in the fourth, but the righty induced a double play and got a strikeout that kept the game scoreless.

Clinton had its only serious threat in the ninth inning. A one-out double by Chris Mariscal preceded a walk by Estarlyn Morales. After right-handed reliever Justin Ferrell (W, 1-0) got Taylor Zeutenhorst to fly out, he walked Joe DeCarlo, which loaded the bases. But Ferrell induced a groundout by Kristian Brito, and Clinton left the winning run on third base.

In his season debut, Dominguez walked the first man that he faced. After Sean McMullen pinch ran for Alex Hernandez, Bobby Boyd sacrificed him to second base. Dominguez got Thomas Lindauer to pop up on the infield, but gave up a two-out, two-run home run on a 3-2 pitch to Jamie Ritchie, his third home run of the season. Clinton then went down in order in the bottom of the 10th vs. Angel Heredia (SV, 1).

The LumberKings went 0-6 with RISP and left seven men on base in the loss. Clinton was out-hit 6-5, the difference being Ritchie's 10th inning home run.

The series finale set for Thursday night will serve as the rubber match after each team came away with an extra innings win. All-Star Lukas Schiraldi (4-4, 4.62) will start for Clinton while Quad Cities will go with Brock Dykxhoorn (4-3, 3.71). First pitch at Ashford University Field is scheduled for 6:30 CT. The LumberKings broadcast can be heard on WCCI 100.3 FM, WCCIRadio.com, and LumberKings.com.
