BELOIT, Wisc.- In a night that the Snappers' pitching staff allowed four home runs, Beloit falls to the Chiefs by a score of 8-3.

Peoria is hosting the Midwest League All-Star festivities next week but they decided to start the home run derby early. It all started when Oscar Mercado hit a 2 run homer (2) on a fly ball to left field in the top of the first.

The Snappers struck back in the bottom of the first with a solo homer (4) by James Harris on a fly ball to left center field to make the score 2-1. Beloit even took the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth when Harris doubled (10) on a line drive to left field to score Justin Higley and Jose Chavez.

In the sixth the Chiefs really pulled away in the home run derby. After an RBI double by Danny Diekroeger (14), Beloit's pitching staff allowed back-to-back-to-back homers for the second time this season, which consisted of a two run home run by Alex DeLeon (6), and solo homers from Nick Thompson (6) and Andrew Sohn (1). The trio of home runs in the sixth put the score at 8-3, which ended up being the final.

Despite the loss, James Harris finished a triple shy of the cycle.

The Beloit Snappers are 25-41 on the season and play the Peoria Chiefs again tomorrow night at Pohlman Field at 7:00 PM. To buy tickets, stop by the office or call (608) 362-2272. Stay tuned to www.snappersbaseball.com and the Snappers' Facebook and Twitter accounts for all up to date news.
