LumberKings Call Hensley Up To West Tenn

linton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings, in conjunction with the Seattle Mariners have announced the promotion of right-hander Steven Hensley to double-A High West Tennessee. Replacing him on the 25-man roster is right-hander Chris Kirkland, joining the club from extended Spring Training in Peoria, Arizona.

Hensley leaves the Midwest League with a perfect 4-0 record and 0.00 ERA through 19.2 innings, making him the league leader in both wins and ERA. The fourth-round pick by the Mariners in 2008, Hensley did not walk a single batter while striking out 16 over his four outings, three starts with the LumberKings.

Kirkland, 23, was the 36th round selection by the Mariners in 2008. He split last season between Peoria (AZL), High Desert and Everett, going 1-1 with a 2.47 ERA. The Rockford, Tennessee native walked 15 while striking out 19 over 18.2 innings spanning 15 relief appearances.

The move gives the LumberKings a total of 25 active players, including two on the disabled list. In other roster news, catcher Israel Nunez is wearing #8. He was sent to the club yesterday in place of injured catcher Juan Fuentes.
