Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Kane County set a new franchise record Friday night in front of 5,619 fans at Elfstrom Stadium, as they won their sixth straight series to start the season, eclipsing the streak of five set by last year's club. The Cougars achieved the record by sweeping a doubleheader from the Lansing Lugnuts, winning 4-1 and 4-3 on a pair of walk-off finishes. Dusty Coleman's three-run homer ended Game 1, and Dusty Napoleon's sacrifice fly capped off Game 2. Â Â Coleman's three-run shot in the bottom of the seventh was the first walk-off homer by a Cougar since 2006. It came off Mike Barbara with Mitch LeVier and Carlos Arrieche aboard. Jason Christian's sacrifice fly in the first had given the Cougars a 1-0 lead, but Lansing tied the game in the third against Brett Hunter, who allowed one run on one hit over five innings. Hunter walked three and struck out a new career-best six in the no-decision. Coleman's homer pinned Ryan Koch (0-1) with the loss and gave a win to reliever Jamie Richmond (2-0). Â Â In Game 2 Coleman smoked an RBI double in the third to tie the game, 1-1, and Franklin Hernandez launched an opposite-field homer in the fourth for another tie, 2-2. Matt Ray's run-scoring double in the fifth gave the Cougars a 3-2 lead, which held until the top of the seventh when Jose Guzman let the Lugnuts draw even. That set up Napoleon for the sacrifice fly in the bottom half, which plated Grant Desme for the exciting finish. Starter Ben Hornbeck yielded two runs in 5 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts and one walk in a no-decision, and Guzman (1-0) got the victory. Â Â The Cougars (15-6) continue their 10-game home stand Saturday night at 5 CT when the South Bend Silver Hawks come to town for a three-game set. Anthony Capra (0-0, 3.21) will face Sean Morgan (0-0, 0.96).
