Chiefs Win Streak Ends With 1-0 Loss Friday Night

Burlington, IA - The Peoria Chiefs saw their six game win streak end Friday night with a 1-0 loss to the Burlington Bees at Community Field. The loss drops the Chiefs to 11-9 overall and 2-1 on their 12-game roadtrip. The Chiefs hadn't trailed all series until the bottom of the fourth. Marcus Hatley retired the first batter before Eric Hosmer reached on a double to left-center. David Wood gave Burlington the 1-0 lead with a single to right-center before he was caught stealing for the second out.

Peoria's best chance to scored came in the first against Bees starter Zach Peterson. Josh Harrison reached on a bunt single with one out and Rebel Ridling walked. But Peterson struck out Kyler Burke and Josh Vitters flew out to deep left to end the threat. The Chiefs didn't get two runners on base in the same inning again until the fifth. Junior Lake reached second on a throwing error by third baseman Kyle Martin with one out and Drew Rundle walked. Peterson escaped the inning when Harrison flew out to right and Ridling struck out looking.

Peoria put the tying run on base in the ninth against Burlington closer Barry Bowden. With two down Michael Brenly drew a walk and was lifted for pinch-runner David Macias. Mario Mercedes pinch-hit for Lake and worked a 3-1 count before grounding out to third to end the game.

Hatley (1-1) allowed just one run on three hits over five innings. He walked two and struck out two while taking the loss. Ryan Buchter allowed a hit and a walk while striking out one in two scoreless innings. Erik Hamren threw a 1-2-3 eighth inning for his lone inning of work. Casey's General Store Player of the Games - Marcus Hatley (SP)- Hatley was strong Friday night through five innings but still took the loss. He didn't allow a hit until the fourth and gave up just three this and one run on the night while striking out two.

Notes...Harrison has a Chiefs season-high 10 game hit streak in which he is 15-for-34 with nine RBI...The Chiefs had scored at least two runs in every nine-inning game played this season...The last 1-0 Chiefs loss was June 13, 2008 in 11 inning at home against Burlington...Peoria is 5-2 when the opponent scores first...Rundle led off in his first game with the Chiefs this season while Burke moved over to centerfield...The Chiefs had not trailed at all in 35 innings and hadn't trailed at the end of an inning for 43 straight frames dating back to the end of the first on Sunday...The Chiefs were 11-for-19 with runners in scoring position in the first two games of the series before going 0-for-7 Friday night...Peoria has 28 hits in two games this season and 15 of the hits have been for extra bases...The Chiefs do not return to Community Field this season while Burlington will still play eight games in Peoria (June 18-21 and August 11-14)...The 12-game road trip moves to Cedar Rapids Saturday night at 6:35...The Chiefs just swept the Kernels at O'Brien Field last Saturday to Tuesday...Game one will feature Chiefs RH Justin Bristow (0-0, 9.00) against Kernels LH Chris Armstrong (1-0, 1.80)...The game can be heard starting with the pre-game show at 6:20 PM on 96.5 ESPN Radio and www.peoriachiefs.com.
