Lugnuts' McBroom Named Midwest League MVP
August 24, 2015 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. -- In a vote of Midwest League field managers, the Lansing Lugnuts' Ryan McBroom has been named MWL Most Valuable Player and honored on the league's Post Season All-Star Team at both first base and designated hitter.
McBroom is the third Lugnut in team history to be selected as league MVP, joining Brian Dopirak (2004) and Kevin Pillar (2012).
In his first season with the Lugnuts, the 23-year-old McBroom leads the MWL in batting average (.324), doubles (38), extra-base hits (50) and sacrifice flies (13), while ranking second in the league in slugging percentage (.499), on-base percentage (.395) and runs batted in (82).
McBroom further distinguished himself in a series of remarkable performances against the Dayton Dragons, going 5-for-5 at Fifth Third Field on May 31st before topping himself with a 6-for-6 (with a walk) showing on July 12th, tying the league and franchise records for hits in a game. With three hits the next day, McBroom gathered hits in nine consecutive at-bats - one at-bat shy of tying another Midwest League record.
The West Virginia product, drafted by the Blue Jays in the 15th round in 2014, enjoyed his finest month in June, batting a sizzling .413 and representing the Lugnuts with four teammates at the 2015 Midwest League All-Star Classic in Peoria.
The Lugnuts are on the road through Saturday before returning to Cooley Law School Stadium on Sunday, August 30, opening a six-game homestand. For more information, call (517) 485-4500 or visit lansinglugnuts.com.
