Clinton LumberKings News Release

Davenport, IA - With one out in the top of the ninth inning, Gianfranco Wawoe flared a single into right field and broke up a no-hit bid by the Quad Cities River Bandits (35-21, 80-44) Monday night at Modern Woodmen Park. The Clinton LumberKings (14-42, 40-85) were shut out for the second time in three days and allowed a season high in runs in an 18-0 loss.

Dean Deetz (W, 3-1) pitched seven brilliant innings, as the righty allowed just four baserunners, two of which came on errors by River Bandits' second baseman Jose Fernandez. Clinton loaded the bases on two errors and a walk in the first, but Wayne Taylor flied out to left field and ended the inning. The LumberKings loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but Steve Naemark struck out Taylor and Kristian Brito and preserved the shutout.

Naemark came in from the bullpen and began the eighth inning in relief of Deetz. The lefty retired the side in order in the eighth, got Austin Cousino to fly out to right field to begin the ninth, but surrendered Clinton's lone hit, the flare by Wawoe.

Offensively, the River Bandits plated multiple runs against four of the five Clinton pitchers who appeared in the game. Starter Jarrett Brown (L, 2-8) gave up five earned runs over 1.2 innings. Jeffeson Medina allowed four runs but no hits over 0.2 innings. Thyago Vieira surrendered six runs, three earned, over 1.2 innings, while Pat Peterson gave up two runs over 0.2 innings. Hawtin Buchanan allowed just one run on four hits over 3.1 innings of relief.

Quad Cities scored five runs in the second, one run in the third, four runs in the sixth, and eight runs in the eighth. The River Bandits sent nine men to the plate in the second inning, eight men to the plate in the sixth, and 13 to the plate in the eighth.

All nine starters for the River Bandits recorded at least one hit, while four had multiple hits. Quad Cities had five triples, two doubles, and 11 singles over just eight offensive innings. Kristian Trompiz had a two-RBI triple in the second inning, Jason Martin had a three-RBI triple in the sixth inning, while Trent Woodward had a two-RBI double in the eighth. Ramon Laureano, Nick Tanielu and Martin each had three RBIs in the win, while Woodward had a game high four RBIs and four hits. The shutout was the 12th of the season handed to the LumberKings, while Quad Cities plated a season high in runs.

Game two of the series is set for Tuesday night at Modern Woodmen Park. Lefty Eddie Campbell (1-2, 3.86) is set to start for Clinton, while righty Justin Ferrell (4-2, 1.99) is scheduled to go for the River Bandits. First pitch is at 7:00 CT.
