MIDLAND, Mich. - Cooler temperatures gave it an autumn feel at Dow Diamond on Monday night. But, Matt Beaty and Brian Wolfe heated things up as they powered the Great Lakes Loons to a 4-0 victory against the Bowling Green Hot Rods.

At the time of first pitch it was 61 degrees, the lowest temp for a game in Midland since May 22. The atmosphere didn't seem bother the duo for the Loons who combined to go 5-for-8 against Hot Rods (63-62, 26-29) pitching following Sunday's rained-out series finale against the Dayton Dragons.

"I got a couple lucky hits," Wolfe said. "I need to credit the guys in front of me. Jimmy Allen had a great at-bat when he battled back from 0-2 to get hit by a pitch and gave me a chance to drive in the runs. Sometimes you crush them and other times you take them off the handle."

The pitching staff for the Loons (62-61, 24-31) tossed their eighth shutout of 2015. Michael Boyle started the game and went 3 2/3 innings, surrendering four hits and striking out four. Cameron Palmer (5-2) earned the win while Jose Molina (4) was awarded with a hold. Matt Campbell anchored the performance in the 9th inning as the quartet struck out 11 batters and stranded 10 runners on base.

Two runs came across to open the ledger for Great Lakes in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Garrett Kennedy and Jordan Tarsovich each singled and both scored on one of Wolfe's two singles for the evening. A sharp line drive down the right field line off the bat of Justin Chigbogu brought Wolfe and Beaty around to score extending the lead to 4-0 in the 6th.

Yonny Chirinos (3-4) started and pitched six tumultuous innings for the Hot Rods as he allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits. He did, however, not walk a batter a recorded six strikeouts as he took the loss.

Since being activated to from the disabled list on August 14, Wolfe has extended his hitting streak to 13 games, is hitting .370 (10-for-27) and has driven in nine runs while being slotted in the heart of the Loons' lineup.

"We have a lot of new guys, but it's a great group with great chemistry," Wolfe said. "We're just learning to play together right now and I think it's going to get better and better as we push towards the playoffs."

Tuesday night will feature a pitching matchup between Tommy Bergjans (1-2, 3.18 ERA) and Bowling Green's Brad Wallace (2-4, 4.91 ERA). The 8th round draft pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers this year, Bergjans has started six games for the Loons. He will be going for his second win in Single-A against the Hot Rods.

It will be a Dodgers Route of Champions Night at the ballpark as former minor leaguers from the Loons organization are featured during the game.
