Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux City-----Ryan Lucero pitched a complete game shutout as the Explorers blanked St. Paul at Lewis and Clark Park Friday.

Lucero, in his first year with the Explorers, scattered six hits, struck out two and didn't walk a batter in picking up his second win of the season.

The Explorers got all the runs Lucero would need in the first inning. The Saints shortstop Adam Frost committed an error on a ground ball off the bat of Eliezer Mesa in the first frame that opened the door for the Explorers. Austin Gallagher singled to drive in the first run and Yusuke Inoguchi doubled to drive in the second run and the Explorers led 2-0.

The Explorers put another run on the board in the second inning on a solo home run by catcher Adrian Martinez, his third of the season.

In the sixth inning Sioux added another run without a hit with a walk, hit batter, double steal and wild pitch to lead 4-0.

The final two runs came in the seventh inning with the bases loaded Gallagher hit into a double play with one run scoring and the second run came home on an error by St. Paul third baseman Joey Becker.

The Explorers had nine hits with Kaskadden, Sam Judah and Martinez all getting two hits apiece. Judah with a double in the third inning extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

The Explorers and St. Paul will meet in the second game of the three game series Saturday at Lewis and Clark Park with game time set for 7:05pm.
