St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - Dealing with a banged up outfield as they try to make a strong playoff push over the final three weeks of the season, the St. Paul Saints have signed University of Minnesota outfielder Andy Henkemeyer. Henkemeyer becomes the third member of the Saints active roster to play collegiately at the U of M, joining pitchers Dustin Klabunde and Billy Soule.
The 23-year old Henkemeyer had a stellar senior season for the Gophers, being named third-team All-Big Ten for the second consecutive season. He entered the season as a Big Ten Player to Watch and then proceeded to lead the Gophers with a .308 batting average in 51 games played. Henkemeyer racked up 13 doubles, three triples, one home run, and 28 RBI on his way to being chosen as one of a pair of team MVP's.
The Sauk Rapids native also put together a solid junior season when he hit .314 and led the team in runs scored (31) and hits (35) and was second in RBI (27) and doubles (11). At one point in the season he reached base safely in 22 straight games. That year Henkemeyer was named Academic All-Big Ten and Richard "Chief" Siebert Most Valuable Player.
In his sophomore and freshman seasons he hit .242 and .297 respectively. Prior to college at Sauk Rapids -Rice High School he was named All-Conference and All-Area as a senior. Henkemeyer also lettered in hockey for three seasons.
The Saints also placed right-handed relief pitcher Mikey Mehlich on the disabled list retroactive to August 12.
The Saints roster stands at the league maximum 22 players, 10 pitchers and 12 position players with two players on the disabled list and one on the inactive list.
