Louisville Takes Game One against Toledo, 3-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (47-64) defeated the Toledo Mud Hens (48-63) by a 3-1 score at Louisville Slugger Field. Chadwick Tromp became the first Louisville player to hit a homer in five straight games in Bats and RiverBats history with his two-run shot in the second inning.

The Bats struck first when Tromp hit a two-run homer in the second inning. The Mud Hens got their first and only run on the board in the sixth inning when Ronny Rodriguez, Dawel Lugo, and Jacob Robson hit three straight singles.

Louisville countered the run in the bottom half of the inning when Alex Blandino hit a single that scored Brian O'Grady putting the score at 3-1. Blandino went 2-for-3 in the game with a double. O'Grady stole second base after being walked in the sixth inning getting his 15th steal of the season.

Jesus Reyes started for the Bats, going 4.0 innings, giving up two hits, walking three and striking out three. Jackson Stephens (6-4, 5.53) got the win for Louisville throwing 2.0 innings, giving up one run on three hits and striking out three. Matt Bowman got his second save of the season, throwing 2.0 innings and striking out three. The loss went to Toledo's starting pitcher Edwin Jackson (1-2, 5.40) who threw 5.0 innings, giving up two runs on six hits, walking two, and striking out one.

Louisville stays at home to continue the three-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens with first pitch set for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Louisville Slugger Field. Right-hander Vladimir Gutierrez (3-9, 6.79) is set to pitch for the Bats and face off against Mud Hens' right-hander Tim Adleman (4-4, 3.46).
