WORKING FOR THE WEEKEND: The Bats return to Louisville Slugger Field for a weekend series against the Toledo Mud Hens, trailing them by just 2 games in the IL West Division. Louisville is coming off a winning road trip against Toledo and Columbus, looking to build on winning 6 of their last 7 and a 13-8 record since the All-Star break.

AGAINST TOLEDO: Louisville welcomes Toledo to town for the final time this season, with TOL holding an 11-8 advantage in the season series and 6-4 at LSF. The Bats will try to win their second series against the Hens this season, and their first in Louisville since taking 2 of 3 from June 9-11, 2017.

LAVARNWAY'S KNACK FOR DEBUTS: Catcher Ryan Lavarnway made quite the entrance on Thursday in Columbus, going 3-for-3 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI in his Louisville debut. On July 19, he went 3-for-4 with a double, 2 HR and 6 RBI in his Reds debut. The Bats are his fifth IL club (PAW-GWN-IND-SWB).

- While he became the ninth different Bat this season with a multi-homer game, 22 in total, he's the first Bats catcher to do it since Devin Mesoraco hit 2 HR on August 23, 2011 in a 10-3 win vs. Toledo.

THE CATCHER IN THE RBI: Lavarnway's monster game continues a stretch of tremendous offense from Louisville catchers, with Chadwick Tromp homering in 4 straight games. Over LOU's last 5 games, catchers are batting .471 (8-for-17) with 5 homers and 13 RBI. For reference, the 2018 Bats had 5 HR from catchers over the entire season: Tony Cruz & Tromp (2), Tim Federowicz (1). This season, LOU has 11 HR from catchers.

Game Catcher Stats

7/28 vs SWB C. Tromp 2-3, HR, RBI

7/29 at TOL C. Tromp 1-3, HR, 4 RBI

7/30 at TOL C. Brown 0-3

7/31 at COL C. Tromp 2-5, HR, 4 RBI

8/1 at COL R. Lavarnway 3-3, 2 HR, 4 RBI

MR. 1000: Coming into play Friday night, LOU has 997 hits as a team. Last season, the Bats recorded their 1,000th hit as a club on August 11 vs. Lehigh Valley in the 115th game of the season. It came in the form of a D.J. Peterson single to lead off the fifth inning.

TRENDING UPWARD WITH 30 TO GO: The Bats are 13-8 since the All-Star break, 6-1 in their last 7 games and have swept 2 of their last 3 series. In July, the pitching was the difference for Louisville in 27 games (15-12), recording a 3.77 ERA. Louisville and Gwinnett (3.73) were the only clubs in July whose team ERA was below 4.00.

TO BE THE MAN, YOU GOTTA BEAT THE MAN: Eleven of Louisville's last 13 games have come against the 3 first-place teams in the International League, going an impressive 8-3 against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Gwinnett and Columbus. Over 65% of LOU's games this season (72 of 110) have come against above-.500 clubs, going 32-40 (.444) against those clubs, as opposed to 14-24 (.368) against at-or-below-.500 teams.

ON PACE TO SET TEAM HR RECORD: Louisville has now hit 146 home runs through 110 games, on pace for approximately 186 home runs, which would shatter the current club record of 166 homers hit by the 1999 RiverBats. Last season, LOU finished with 113 homers in 137 games.

27 IS PERFECT: Center fielder Brian O'Grady went 2-for-4 last night with his 27th double and 27th home run for Louisville this season. He, along with OF Aristides Aquino this season, both own the single-season record for most homers in RiverBats/Bats history (since 1999). O'Grady is the only player to Minor League Baseball with 27+ doubles and 27+ homers this season.
