
RailRiders' middle-innings burst gets them win

(Moosic, PA) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (63-48) beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (52-57) on Friday night by a score of 9-6.
The IronPigs wasted no time in getting after RailRiders starting pitcher Jackson Junk. The Pigs took a 2-0 lead against Junk in the top of the first inning. Deivy Grullon hit an RBI single to score Phil Gosselin and a fielding error by catcher Francisco Arcia allowed Andrew Romine to score from third base. Shane Robinson homered off Junk in the top of the second inning to give Lehigh Valley a 3-0 lead.
Enyel De Los Santos pitched two scoreless innings before the game went into a lengthy rain delay - an hour and 25 minutes. The game was called with Logan Morrison at the plate and Romine on second base against Junk and a 2-1 count.
Jose Pirela hit an RBI double off Daniel Bies when the game resumed in the top of the second inning to give Lehigh Valley a 4-0 lead. He extended his hitting streak to eight games and his on-base streak to 21 games. Clint Frazier hit an RBI double off Connor Brogdon in the bottom of the third inning to cut the IronPigs lead to 4-1.
Ali Castillo hit an RBI single off Bies in the top of the fourth inning to extend Lehigh Valley's lead to 5-1. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre scored three runs off JD Hammer in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it a one-run game, 5-4. Mike Ford and Thairo Estrada hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the inning. Castillo followed with another RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to give the IronPigs a 6-4 lead.
The RailRiders scored a total of five runs off Tyler Gilbert (1-2) in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 9-6 lead. Mandy Alvarez scored on a wild pitch and Clint Frazier hit a three-run home run. Thairo Estrada also doubled and brought in a run in the inning.
David Sosbee (4-1) earned the win for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as J.P. Feyereisen earned his sixth save of the season.
Lehigh Valley and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre play at 6:35 p.m. at PNC Field on Saturday night.
