April 24, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Norfolk Tides News Release

Louisville used a strong effort from their pitching staff and two big innings to blank the Tides 9-0 Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park.

Tides starter Odrisamer Despaigne (0-3) kept the Bats off the board until the fifth frame, but Louisville sent eight men to the plate in the inning to take a commanding lead. Chris Berset and Jermaine Curtis had RBIs in the frame, while Steve Selsky added a two-run single to chase Despaigne from the contest. The Bats also scored an unearned run on a passed ball to take a 5-0 lead.

Louisville extended their cushion to 8-0 in the sixth inning, as Kyle Waldrop hit a three-run homer off of Scott McGough.

Despaigne allowed five runs - four earned - on eight hits over 4.2 innings of work. He walked two without striking out a batter while throwing 54 of his 88 pitches for strikes. The Tides have still not scored a run with Despaigne on the hill during any of his four starts this season.

Louisville starter Robert Stephenson (1-1) earned the win after firing six shutout innings. Stephenson, the number two prospect in the Reds organization according to MLB.com, yielded three hits and three walks while striking out two. He combined with Keyvius Sampson and former Tide Jumbo Diaz for Louisville's second shutout of the season.

Paul Janish had one of Norfolk's five singles to extend his hitting streak to seven games - tied for the longest by a Tides player this season. Over that stretch, Janish has hit .542 (13-24) with five multi-hit games.

The two clubs continue their three-game series on Monday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch slated for 6:35. Nick Additon (1-1, 2.65) gets the start for Norfolk against right-hander Tim Adleman (1-0, 7.20).

Notes: Xavier Avery singled and walked to extend his hitting streak to five games...The loss was Norfolk's fourth shutout defeat this season...Christian Walker singled and walked and has now hit safely in 14 of 17 games...Norfolk finished 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position...Norfolk grounded into two double plays, extending its league-leading total to 29.
